Although students are encouraged to progress at their own speed, they aren’t doing it in isolation. Montessori teachers closely observe each child and provide materials and activities tailored to enhance their learning based on their current skills and knowledge. This intentional support helps children master each challenge, ensuring they only advance when they are fully ready, which effectively prevents them from “falling behind.”
Montessori emphasizes learning through all five senses, not just through listening, watching, or reading. In Montessori classrooms, children advance at their own individual pace and select from a diverse array of activities. This method turns learning into an engaging journey of discovery, nurturing concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a true love for learning. Furthermore, Montessori primary classrooms consist of mixed-age groups, fostering communities where older children naturally share their knowledge with younger ones. Overall, Montessori represents a distinctly different educational philosophy
Dr. Maria Montessori emphasized the importance of physical activity and sports in child development. She believed that movement is essential for learning, and that sports can help children develop not only physical skills but also social, emotional, and cognitive abilities. Montessori sports are designed to promote cooperation, respect, and self-discipline, rather than competition.
In Montessori education, physical activities are often integrated into the learning environment, allowing children to engage in movement that is purposeful and connected to their educational experience. The focus is on the process of learning through movement, rather than simply winning or losing. This approach fosters a sense of community and encourages children to support one another in their physical pursuits.
